Prologue Chapter 1

Loving You

Chapter 2

The silence of the city hospital was broken by the sirens of the approaching ambulances.  The paramedics rushed out of them and pulled two stretchers into the hospital where interns, nurses and doctors took over.  Doors opened with loud bangs, slamming against the walls as the staff rushed each victim toward an operating room.

The chief of staff reached one of the stretchers.  “What do we have?” he asked.

“Male.  Late twenties.  Head-on collision into a tree,” a nurse in a white scrub informed him about Yoochun.  “He seemed to have suffered a head injury.”

The middle-aged doctor nodded and ordered them to take him to Operating Room 1.  He rushed over to the other victim.  He paled when he saw the face of the unconcious man.

           “Junho…” he breathed.

“You know this man, Dr. Jung?” one of the interns asked.

Dr. Jung swallowed his saliva as his mouth had gone dry. “Yes, I’m his family’s physician.”

“Would you like to be the one to call his family then?”

The doctor shook his head. “There’s no need.  His parents are already in the hospital.”

Kim Sung Ho stared at his wife’s frail, sleeping figure on the hospital bed.  Her health had deteriorated little by little ever since Junho left home. He held her hand and gave a warm, soft smile when she opened her eyes. She returned a weak one.

“I have good news, honey. Junho is coming home.”

Tears welled up in Kim Hee Jin's eyes when she heard the news. Her eldest son was finally coming home. She squeezed her husband’s hand.

Her husband nodded.  “Yes,” and kissed her knuckles.  “So you can’t give up yet.  You have to fight this, okay?”

Hee Jin hummed in agreement.

“I’m very sorry, dear, about this whole mess,” Sung Ho apologized with sincerity.

“I know you are,” she replied. She knew her husband all really needed was some time to grasp the fact their eldest son is gay. “Thank you for calling him to come home.”

The hotelier kissed his wife’s temple. They smiled and stared into each other’s eyes lovingly until a knock at the door made them break their gaze. The family doctor (and chief of staff) Dr. Jung Junjin walked in.

“I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news,” the doctor began.

“What’s wrong, Junjin-ah?” Sung Ho asked his friend with concern in his voice. Was his wife’s condition getting worse?

“It’s Junho,” he stopped to let out a breath he had been holding. “He was involved in an accident earlier this evening.”

Mrs. Kim raised a hand to cover her gasp as her husband tightened his hold on her shoulder, both fearing the worst.

“I’m sorry,” the doctor shook his head. “He didn’t make it.”

Mrs. Kim let out a wail and burst into tears. Her husband tightly embraced her and tried to calm her.

“I’m very sorry for your loss,” Dr. Jung sincerely said as he fought back his own tears.

The Jungs have been family doctors to the Kims for two generations. Junjin’s father had been the physician when Sung Ho was growing up. Now the job has been passed down to him to care for Sung Ho and his family. He had watched both Junho and Junsu grow up over the years. He had considered them like his own sons. When he retires, it will be his son, Yunho’s turn to care for the twins and their families.

The family physician cleared his throat before he delivered the next piece of information. “Park Yoochun was also in the car.”

The two Kims looked up. They had forgotten for a moment that Junho’s lover would be visiting, too. Since it was hard for his wife to speak, Sung Ho inquired about Yoochun’s condition.

“He suffered a mild head injury, but he should be fine in a couple of days.”

Hee Jin was relieved to hear that Yoochun would be all right.

“Does he…know?” her husband asked and received a nod from the doctor.

Silence filled the room.

“I think there’s something you both should know,” Dr. Jung finally remembered. “Yoochun is wearing the late Grandmother Kim’s wedding ring.”

It didn't take the Kims long to conclude that their eldest son and Yoochun were married.

“We have to go see him.”

The two males turned their attention to the woman, who was drying her tear-stained face.

“He has to know that he is not alone in this world. That we’re his family now.” She pulled back the covers and was about to step out of her bed when her husband held her by the shoulders.

“You’re much too weak to be out of bed, dear,” he reminded her.

Hee Jin frowned.  “I’m fine, dear. My illness is not that life-threatening…right, Junjin-sshi?” she looked at the family doctor as did her husband.

All of a sudden, the room suddenly felt hot for the doctor. He gulped. He was unprepared for the secret to come out soon.

“What did my wife mean by that?” the hotelier asked as he eyed his friend suspiciously, his hands falling to his sides.

The doctor stammered out an explanation. “Ah…well, um…you see…Hee Jin-ah’s illness isn’t serious.”  He laughed nervously when Sung Ho continued to stare at him, completely unamused.  Junjin then cleared his throat.  "She's going to be fine,” he admitted.

Realizing that he had been deceived, Sung Ho inhaled deeply to control his emotions since he was relieved that his wife’s illness was not going to take her life.

“Don’t be angry, dear. I begged him to lie about my health so that you could finally call our son and tell him to come home,” Mrs. Kim stated.

She was not the least bit worried that her husband would be furious with her. She has had enough of his stubbornness over the years and had decided to take this particular matter into her own hands. It was the only way the family could reunite, but now? Now, her scheme had caused her her son’s life.

“It’s my fault Junho is dead,” she sobbed, overwhelmed with guilt. “It’s all my fault.” She weeped some more.

Her husband watched her with an aching heart. “No, dear. It’s my fault. If I hadn’t been such a proud and stubborn man, you would have never had to do this.” He bent down to hold and comfort her.

“Please do not blame yourselves, Dr. Jung's voice cut in.  The person responsible for Junho’s death is the driver of the other vehicle. He was driving under the influence of alcohol when he drove against traffic, causing your son’s car to swerve off the road.”

The blood in Kim Song Ho's body boiled with rage. “Where is this son of a bitch?” his voice was scary.

“He’s dead, chingu (friend). He crashed head-on into the car that was behind Junho’s, killing himself and the driver in that car.”

“Good.” Mr. Kim cooled down a little. The drunken bastard had an easy way out.  If he was still alive, then Kim Sung Ho would have made him paid drastically for taking his eldest son's life.

“When can we see him, Junjin-ah?” Mrs. Kim finally spoke again.

“He’s resting right now. I’ll have one of the nurses inform you when he’s awake.”

She got out of the bed. “That won’t be necessary. Where’s his room? I wanna be there when he wakes up.”

The doctor let out a sigh.  There was no dissuading Kim Hee Jin when she's made her mind up about something.  “Very well, then. He is in room 394.”

With that, Hee Jin left her hospital room. Sung Ho quietly walked up to his doctor friend.

“I just wanted you to know that I am not angry, but don’t you ever pull this kind of stunt again.”

“I’m sorry, chingu. It was not healthy for her to be away from her son. I had to do it.”

Sung Ho nodded.  “I know.” He did know. He was there when his wife started to resent him. She refused to eat regularly, causing her health to deteriorate.

“Thank you for always looking out for my family.”

The doctor gave his friend a single nod.

“I'll break the news to Junsu,” he informed Junjin before he stepped out of the room.

“Junnie…Junnie…” Yoochun mumbled in his sleep.

Mrs. Kim sat beside his hospital bed and gently wiped the perspiration forming on his forehead with a warm, damp washcloth. As she did this, tears escaped from his closed eyelids. Yoochun looked so pitiful that she could no longer contain her tears and started sobbing. She brought up her hands to cover her mouth to muffle out her sobs, so that she won’t wake the injured man.

However, Yoochun did hear and slowly lifted his eyelids. He turned toward the crying woman. It took him a while to realize that it was Mrs. Kim. Why was she in his hospital room when she was not feeling well?

He panicked. “Mrs. Kim!” and sat up in bed, only to wince back onto the mattress in pain.

Hee Jin stood up from her seat to attend to him. “Where does it hurt? Do you need me to call the nurse or doctor?” she asked, full of worry, through sniffles.

Yoochun shook his head, and even that was painful, too. He wanted to speak, but his mouth was dry from all of the crying he had done earlier when he was given the news about his husband’s death. Sensing this, Mrs. Kim got up and poured water into a plastic cup. She handed it to Yoochun who gratefully took the cup and drank its content.

“Junho told me that you are not feeling well. You should not be here, Mrs. Kim. You should be resting in bed.”

The woman was touched by her son’s spouse’s concern. She can see why Junho was in love with Yoochun. He is such a caring person, she thought as she fought back her tears that were forming from thinking about her son.

“I’m well enough to be out of bed, Yoochun. Please don’t worry about me. Let’s focus on you getting better, okay?”

The young man began weeping in his bed. “I’m so sorry, Mrs. Kim. This is my entire fault. I never should have gotten involved with your son. Maybe then, he wouldn’t have left home and he would still be here...” He cried some more as did Mrs. Kim as she shook her head.

        “Don’t blame yourself, dear.”

“She’s right,” they heard someone say. They both turned toward the door. Yoochun controlled his crying as much as he could and bowed his head in respect to the man at the door.

        “Mr. Kim.”

Said man walked in. “It is nobody’s fault but that bastard who decided that it was okay to drink and drive,” he said as he walked to stand beside his wife. “Now I don’t want to hear another word about who’s fault it is that Junho is no longer here.”

“Yes, sir,” Yoochun said quietly, his eyes lowered.

“And one more thing. You would not speak to us so formally from now on. You are the son-in-law of the Kim family and you should start acting like one.”

Yoochun was too overwhelmed with happiness for words. He couldn’t believe that he was finally accepted. He was finally part of a family. His husband’s family.

Hee Jin held her husband’s hand and mouthed a ‘thank you’ to him.

The Kims waited until Yoochun was discharged from the hospital before they held the funeral for Junho. Friends, relatives, and even hotel employees attended to give their condolences and offer words of comfort to the parents and widower of Kim Junho.  Everyone was present except for the second Kim son. There were murmurs in the crowd as to where Junho’s twin brother Kim Junsu could be.

“How could he not attend his own brother’s funeral?” whispered one young female employee to her coworker.

“I heard that the two became estranged when Junho-sshi left Seoul. Maybe that’s the reason why he’s not here,” she replied.

“Or maybe his flight from Japan is just delayed. Have you ever considered that, hmm?!” a voice cut in, causing the girls to shut their mouths.

They were obviously embarrassed that they were caught gossiping. They bowed their heads and apologized to Kim Junsu’s best friend Kim Jaejoong. As they walked away, the beautiful, raven-haired shook his head and let out an annoyed sigh. He hated office gossip, which is why he was so glad he was not attracted to women, who happened to be the source of most of the gossip.

“Why can’t people ever mind their own business?” a man next to him voiced.

“Tell me about it,” he answered absentmindedly. It took him a couple of seconds before he realized who was standing next to him.

“Dr. Jung Yunho-sshi!” Jaejoong raised his hand to calm the beating of his heart.

The young doctor apologized for unintentionally startling him. Jaejoong chuckled at himself for his silly reaction. “That’s quite all right, doctor. You don’t have to apologize.”

“So…have you heard from Junsu-sshi?” Yunho asked. He, too, was curious as to where the younger son was.

“His flight’s been delayed. He’ll be here as soon as he can,” Jaejoong answered as coolly as he can. After all, the man standing next to him is only the man of his dreams.  He suddenly felt the urge to defend his best friend.

“Junsu was in Japan when he received the news about his brother.  Different people have different ways of coping with the loss of a loved one. Junsu coped with it by working, which is why he’s returning to Seoul on the day of the funeral. He trusted that his parents could handle the arrangements for the funeral.

I see, was all Yunho said.

Silence fell between them as their eyes roamed the room. It was almost empty of the guests. Tomorrow would be the burial. They watched as Mrs. Kim walked over to speak with her son-in-law. They couldn’t hear anything, but they continued to just observe.

“Yoochun-ah,” she held his hand with tenderness. He turned to face her.  “Your father-in-law and I would like for you to come and live with us.”

“Oh, I-I don’t think I should… he stammered.

“Please? I know it’s what Junho would have wanted.”  She brought a hand up to caress his cheek. For all of us to live, love, and support each other.”

“Okay, Omonim,” Yoochun gave in and looked down shyly.

“You can't be serious!”

The two of them turned to the man who gave the outburst.

“Junsu-yah…” Mrs. Kim uttered her youngest son's name.

“How can you ask him to live with us, Mom? He’s the reason why our family is torn apart and why hyung is dead!” Junsu shouted, pointing an accusing finger at the long-haired man.

Hee Jin slapped her son on the cheek. Yoochun brought a hand to cover his gasp. Jaejoong did, too, as he observed the scene from a few feet away.

“How can you speak so ill of your brother’s spouse like that and on a day like today? Did I raise you to be this disrespectful? You’re worse than your father.”

She was furious and so was Junsu. His mother had never struck him before. Ever. Not to mention, he was told that he was worst than his father, whom he also blamed for tearing the family apart.

Yoochun excused himself with watery eyes. His mother-in-law walked and called after him but her calls fell on deaf ears. He ran out of the facility, got into a cab, and took off into the night.

Hee Jin let out a sigh and returned to his son’s side. “Yoochun is your brother-in-law, which means he is a part of this family now, and you are going to treat him with respect, do you hear me?”

Junsu looked at her with angry eyes. “Loud and clear, ma’am,” he said before he, too, left the room with Jaejoong chasing and calling after him.

Yunho walked up to the woman. “Try not to be too upset, Mrs. Kim. It’s not good for your health.”

She stepped forward and gave Yunho a hug. “Thank you, Yunho…for coming and for your concern.”

Chapter 3

A/N: I have no idea what happens during a Korean funeral, so I just wrote whatever. Anyways…I’m so happy I finally updated this fic.

Oh, and I need some suggestions for Koran names for the Junsu's parents. As you can see, I randomly chose Junjin to be the name of Yunho's father. Now I need names for Mr. and Mrs. Kim so I don't always refer to them as Mr. Kim and Mrs. Kim. Thank you, ladygaffes, for the names!

Now I'm off to write chapter 3. Happy Yoosu Day to those who live in the eastern hemisphere! I live in the U.S., so tomorrow will be Yoosu Day over here.  I'm just happy I finally got to post this, especially since lj is broken.  Stupid LJ doesn't have the indent button anymore!

Yes, it has been forever since I've updated this fic. Basically because I didn't know what to write for the hospital scene. I'm glad I've finally got some ideas for that part.

Thank you for waiting so patiently for this update. And thanks for reading and commenting.

I do remember!! And I'm so excited!!

I've basically stopped writing my fic months ago so I understand you. Things happen and you just lose track of time. Suddenly a whole year has passed and you haven't updated *guilty as charged*

Still! I'm so glad you'll continue this story ^_^ i thought the plot was very interesting. They way you start the story with such sadness, then a bit of hope, then tragedy and now you have left the characters to sort themselves out. I'm looking forward to see how the JunChun unfolds ;D

That seems to be a popular role for Junsu in Junchun fics, no?
