Loving You

Chapter 9

“Okay, you. I don’t like you and you don’t like me, but damn it to hell if I’m gonna let you ruin the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” the tall, slender private investigator, Shim Changmin, paced back and forth in front of his opponent.

Ever since his wife Lee Yeonhee adopted the little thing, he’s been nothing but a nuisance for Changmin, taking the man’s things and misplacing them. Just the other day, the tall man was late to meet a client because he couldn’t find his keys.

He had discussed with Yeonhee that maybe they weren’t cut out for this kind of responsibility, but his sweet wife begged him to not be discouraged. Hence, why the P.I. is having a talk with Mang Dong today.

“So let me make this very clear,” Changmin said as he continued to pace back and forth. “We’re going to have to start getting along for the sake of the woman we love. So no more taking things that do not belong to you or it’s outdoors you go. I hear it’s quite cold at night. Now do we have an understanding?” he stopped and faced the other.

“Arf!” yelped the tiny, furry white dog by the name of Mang Dong.

Changmin grinned. “That’s a good dog.” He bent down to the dog’s level. “Now, shake.”

The little dog held its paw out and Changmin shook it. His cell phone rang, bringing an end to the handshake.

“Hello?” Changmin said as he stood up.

“Changmin-ah.”

“Hyung? Hey, how are you?”

“Not good, Changmin. I’ve got a problem that I hope you can help me with.”

The tall lad furrowed his brows. This sounded serious. “Do you need me to come to Korea then?”

“No, I just flew in today. Can you meet me in my room at The Akia?”

“Sure. I’ll see you in a twenty minutes.”

He ended the call and then pointed at Mang Dong and ordered him to “be good” while he was gone. He dialed Yeonhee’s number before he turned to gather his things to leave the house.

“Oh, yeobo-yah. I’m meeting with a client today…”

Changmin met Kim Junsu two years ago when the hotelier hired him to find his older twin brother and his lover Park Yoochun. It wasn’t too difficult to locate the couple since they did not change their identity nor did they leave the country. To his surprise, he found the couple happily married and living in a small town near the foothills. He recalled thinking that love was a gift, no matter who the other person is when he saw the two of them from afar. It was just a shame that Kim Sung Ho couldn’t see that.

He submitted his report to Junsu after locating the two. Whether his client visited his brother, Changmin did not know. His job was to just gather and report the information he was hired to find.

Junsu must not have had a lot of friends in Japan, Changmin thought to himself when he received an unexpected invitation to join the former for drinks at a bar a few nights later. He figured that since he was the only person outside of the Kim family to know about Kim Junho and his lover, that Junsu must have felt that he could confide in him.

They gradually became friends and when he started dating Yeonhee, he had introduced her to Junsu. They would meet whenever the hotelier was in Japan for business or for vacation.

The last time he was in the country, Junsu had received the devastating news that his twin had passed away in a car accident. Although he and Yeonhee had encouraged him to return to Korea, Junsu refused to, saying that he was not ready to accept that his brother was truly gone. Instead, he continued to go to work to keep his mind off of it.

In his car, Changmin wondered if Junsu’s problem was related to Park Yoochun. He was aware that Junho’s widower was now living at the Kim Estate. Junsu had updated him on the funeral and the new addition to his family. His friend wasn’t happy with it, but there was nothing Junsu could do about the living situation.

The P.I. pulled up to the Kim hotel in Japan known as The Akia. He handed his keys to the valet before walking in. He took the elevator up to the president’s suite and rang the doorbell when he reached his friend’s suite. Junsu opened the door and they greeted each other unenthusiastically, given the seriousness behind his visit.

“Hey.” “Hey.”

“Thank you for coming,” Junsu said and made way for the younger man to enter.

They stopped in the main room when Changmin saw his friend's brother-in-law sitting on one of the couches. Junsu introduced the two of them before he and Changmin sat down as well. Yoochun passed him a cup of tea while Junsu explained their situation.
His suspicions were correct after all.

When the hotelier finished, Changmin turned his attention to Yoochun and asked, “Yoochun-sshi, can you narrow the perpetrator down to anybody? The investigation will go a lot quicker if you can give me a list of suspects.”

The longhaired man shook his head no. “I don’t recall having made any enemies growing up. I’m sorry.”

“That’s all right.” He took out a small flipbook and a pen from his pocket. “I’m going to ask you a couple of questions to help me get started if that’s all right with you.”

Yoochun nodded.

After the interrogation, Yoochun excused himself to the bathroom. Changmin looked at his friend and stated, “You know…I could have easily flew to Korea myself. Especially since the perpetrator is Korean, I would have ended up having to fly to Korea anyways for my investigation. You didn’t have to come all the way here with Yoochun-sshi.”

“I know, Changmin. It’s just…I just wanted Yoochun out of the country as faraway from that man as possible.” He reckoned Yoochun didn't feel safe in their own home.

“Oh? You sound like you might know who is doing this. Do you have a suspect in mind?”

Junsu shook his head. “I haven’t got a clue.” He rested his face in his palms, feeling frustrated and helpless.

Yoochun walked by and picked up two teacups and walked into the kitchen for a refill.

“Maybe the perpetrator has something against your hyung,” Changmin added.

Junsu was about to respond when they heard a yelp from the kitchen followed by a crashing noise. Junsu jumped up from his seat and ran there in a flash. He saw Yoochun holding onto his left hand with his eyes closed obviously in pain.

“What happened?” he asked breathlessly as he neared his brother-in-law, his heart beating uncontrollably fast just at the thought of Yoochun being in danger.

“I accidentally burned my hand with the hot water,” Yoochun explained, biting his lower lip in hopes of easing the pain.

Junsu and Changmin, who stood by the entrance, were relieved that that was it and nothing more life threatening. The hotelier stepped closer and gently took hold of Yoochun’s left hand to examine it.

“It doesn’t look too bad, but let’s put it under cold water.”

He walked over to the sink and turned on the cold water, Yoochun already by his side. The younger nervously placed his hand under the running water. Junsu stepped behind him and that’s when he felt Junsu’s arms around him, Junsu’s own hands reaching for his left hand and cradling it under the running water. Yoochun almost forgot how to breathe, his heart beating faster and faster as they stayed in that position.

“Is it a little better?” he heard Junsu ask, his hot breath tickling his neck, sending chills all over his body.

Yoochun didn’t trust his voice, so he nodded.

A few feet away, the P.I. watched on in astonishment. He couldn’t believe what he was witnessing. Before him was not his friend with a grudge. What happened to the Kim Junsu who hated Park Yoochun?
This Kim Junsu was actually concerned for his brother-in-law’s wellbeing. Changmin knows his friend gets very protective of those close to him and the fact that he’s willing to do all of this for Yoochun made Changmin wonder if Junsu has warmed up to the idea of Yoochun being a part of his family.

Changmin paused and noticed something even more shocking.
Junsu had taken the anti-burn spray from the first aid kit and had sprayed Yoochun's hand with it. What was shocking was the way Junsu was looking at Yoochun at the moment and how he was fretting over the longhair man suggests that there could possibly be something more even if his friend doesn't realize it yet.

The P.I. smiled. This whole time he thought his friend was only doing this to protect the Kim name, but now that he had seen it with his own eyes, it appeared that Junsu also wants to protect Park Yoochun for reasons besides him being family.

The three of them returned to the small sitting area of the suite. Changmin asked to look through the contacts in Yoochun’s cell phone. He had a hunch that it was someone who knew Yoochun personally. Who else could easily have access to Yoochun’s cell phone number? Mr. and Mrs. Kim were off the suspect list, but he’ll have to look into Jung Yunho, Kim Jaejoong, Shindong, Mrs. Lee, Kong Ho Dong, and Driver Cho a little more.

“Yunho and Jaejoong can’t be the perpetrator,” Junsu voiced.

“That my be true, but I can’t just rule them out because they’re close to you, Junsu.”

“I understand.” Junsu gave in. He had to let Changmin do his job if he wants to catch the bastard.

“In the meantime, you two shouldn’t talk to anyone about this. R
eturn home and act like nothing's changed,” the P.I. advised.

The two nodded obediently.

~:~:~:~:~

Yoochun insisted that they get two rooms at the hotel, but Junsu would hear none of it. He didn’t want Yoochun to be out from his sight. What if something happens during the middle of the night and he can’t reach Yoochun in time? No. They were going to share one room and one…

“You can take the bed then. I’ll take the couch,” Yoochun interrupted his thoughts.

“No. We’ll both sleep on the bed,” Junsu stated in a firm voice, leaving no room for Yoochun to argue but to nod in agreement.

“Okay,” the other said in a small voice.

The younger of the two showered first. When he walked out of the bathroom in his pajama bottoms and a thin, old V-neck shirt, his hair was still damp and a few strands stuck to his neck. Junsu, who was sitting on the chair by the small wooden desk in the bedroom, looked up and found himself unable to tear his eyes away from that swanlike neck. Yoochun walked over to the bed, his hand running through his hair, giving Junsu a better view of his Adam’s apple. The older was able to snap out of his reverie when Yoochun turned to tell him that he could go shower.

“Get some rest,” he told his brother-in-law when he stood up.

Yoochun nodded and got under the covers. Junsu stepped inside the bathroom and when he heard the water running, Yoochun raised his left hand and ran his right hand over it. He no longer felt pain from the area where the hot water had spilled on. Instead, the burning sensation was coming from any part of his body where Junsu have had contact with, even if it was for a brief moment: his arms, his hand, his back, even his neck and ears. His right hand moved to feel his heart. It was beating fast again just at the thought of Junsu. Yoochun couldn’t understand why he was feeling this way.  Why did he suddenly feel nervous about sleeping next to his brother-in-law who had been nothing but helpful throughout this entire ordeal?

Junsu came out of the bathroom thirty minutes later and found Yoochun fast asleep on the bed. The hotelier looked at the sleeping man and knew right away that he wasn’t going to sleep a wink that night. He was too concerned for Yoochun’s safety to sleep.
He sat on the cushioned chair from earlier and watched over Yoochun the entire night, questions running through his head. Why didn’t Yoochun feel that he could tell Junsu or his parents about those phone calls? Why did he keep it to himself for weeks? Junsu wanted to beat himself up for putting Yoochun in a situation where he felt that he couldn’t turn to Junsu for help. He imagined Yoochun must have been frightened and alone having no one to turn to. He suddenly felt a pang in his heart at that thought.

His eyelids was getting heavier and heavier. He rested them for a while and when he reopened them, he saw his twin standing before him, looking off into the distance, the wind blowing in his hair.

Junsu observed his surroundings. He was no longer in his hotel suite. This was the little town where Junho lived with Yoochun two years ago, the exact same spot where he had gone to meet with his twin brother after Changmin submitted the report in to him.

There, beneath the same willow tree, Junsu had begged him to return home, but the older twin had to sadly refuse, saying he would not go home until their father has given him and Yoochun his blessing.

“Hyung?” Junsu called out.

Junho turned to him with the saddest eyes Junsu had ever seen, and asked, “I’m sorry that I can’t protect Yoochun anymore. You’ll watch over him for me, won’t you, Junsu-yah?”

Junsu felt his heart ache when he looked into those melancholic eyes. He had never seen his older brother like this. Junho had always the strong one. It just goes to show how much Yoochun meant to his twin.

He swallowed the lump in his throat before he replied, “I will, hyung.”

Junho smiled gratefully at his other half. “Gomawo,” he said before he slowly disappeared into the thin air.

“Hyung!”

Junsu woke up with a startle, his cheeks tear-stained a little. He was back in his hotel suite again, still in the chair from last night. Fortunately, Yoochun was still asleep, breathing steadily on the bed on his side. Junsu leaned back in the chair and wiped the wetness on his cheeks away.

‘I will, hyung. I promise...’

Re: Spot for Ain
Oh, no. I've always known that Junchun was not as popular as Yoosu. I know this b/c when someone wants fic recommendations from the comm, a few of them will write "No Junchun fics please," so yeah, it's not b/c of the conversation on twitter. It's something I already know.

Aw Junsu... I can't imagine how hard it must be to lose a sibling or a lover. And these two experienced just that but are now stuck together by fate. This short little moment shows that so clearly and it gives me goosebumps.
